The Dockyard raises glass to Merrion Centre with Leeds launch

September2016

The Dockyard is a specialist craft beer and ale business operating a chain of modern pubs in an industrial style offering lagers, ales, spirits and wines from around the world. Its diverse menu offers market leading dining options for lunch and dinner with weekends boasting its acclaimed brunch. The venue will also play host to live music events throughout the year.

The Merrion Centre has secured a major coup with the announcement that it is bringing popular alehouse group The Dockyard to Leeds for the first time.

The arrival is the next step in the development of the Merrion Centre within the city’s Arena Quarter leisure destination, home to a wide-ranging and exciting mix of retail and leisure outlets.

The Dockyard first opened in Manchester’s Media City in 2014, and has gone from strength to strength, opening at a second location in the city centre shortly after with a third site set to open in October. The Merrion Centre site will be The Dockyard’s first outside of Manchester.

The Leeds opening will create 20 new jobs in The Dockyard’s 5,000 sq ft location, dedicated to serving craft beer, ale and cider alongside beers from the teams very own Gasworks brewery when it opens on Merrion Way in November.

Steve Pilling, owner of The Dockyard, said: “Merrion Way at the Merrion Centre was a clear choice for us when looking for our first location in Leeds. The exciting and diverse range of restaurants, shops and offices in addition to its proximity to lots of city centre residential and, of course, the First Direct Arena makes it a great fit for our ‘21st century local pub’ model.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming new customers to The Dockyard to get our expert advice on craft ales and beers and enjoy some top-quality food.”

“The Dockyard will make a great addition to the centre, building on our already popular and varied food and drink offering. Restaurants such as this opening in the Merrion Centre help build and maintain the reputation of Leeds as a leader in terms of a culinary capital, and attract new customers to the Arena Quarter. We’ve welcomed a host of exciting new tenants over the past 12 months and our footfall figures reflect this. Customers continue to be attracted to the destination which combines great value shopping and leisure with a modern approach.”

The Dockyard’s affordable menu served from noon until 9pm will bring guests freshly prepared dishes from burgers and killer hotdogs, to handmade pies and sandwiches. Sundays promise a choice of roast chicken, leg of lamb and sirloin of beef with all the trimmings for just £10.

The Dockyard is just the latest opening at the Merrion Centre as over the last 12 months six new brands have opened in the longest established shopping centre in Leeds including: Smoke Barbeque, JR Barbers and The Pastry House.
