Pastry House brings taste of Lebanon to The Merrion Centre

July2016

The Merrion Centre has further enhanced its reputation as a destination for international cuisine after announcing that successful patisserie Pastry House is to open at the popular shopping centre.

Offering traditional Lebanese pastries, cakes and savouries, Pastry House is launching in Leeds after more than 25 years of operation in Manchester.

Run by Mor. Sammour, Pastry House at The Merrion Centre will open for breakfast and throughout the day, including evenings to cater for audiences visiting First Direct Arena.

Pastry House will offer both a takeaway and eat-in service when it opens in a 334 sq ft unit on Merrion Way in early May.

Robert Selwyn, assistant asset manager at The Merrion Centre, said Pastry House’s cuisine would prove popular with shoppers, students and city centre workers.

Mr Selwyn said: “It is great news that Pastry House is opening at The Merrion Centre and it further enhances the fantastic range of international cuisine we offer to our customers.

“Pastry House has enjoyed enormous success in Manchester and we are really excited about the exciting dishes Mo and his team will create in first class surroundings.

“As the longest established shopping centre in Leeds, The Merrion Centre is a key location within Leeds’s thriving Arena Quarter and we’re committed to continuing to invest in the centre and to offer choice and variety for the benefit of our customers and the wider city.”

Mr. Sammour, founder of Pastry House, said opening in Leeds was a “dream come true”.

“Pastry House is delighted to be opening in Leeds for the first time at The Merrion Centre. For us The Merrion Centre was our first choice location in the city because of its high footfall and popularity throughout the day as part of the buzzing Arena Quarter.

“With a manufacturing base and several outlets in Manchester, we also offer our PH Kitchen Fresh brand of shortbread, biscuits and slices in shops, cafes, hotels, supermarkets and to food service customers nationally as well as at banquets across the North. “

The opening of Pastry House comes at an exciting time for The Merrion Centre, which saw footfall reach record levels in December, January and February, with just over three million visits throughout the three month period, up 5.5% on the previous corresponding period.

The Merrion Centre enjoyed a successful 2015 with the completion of the Merrion Way redevelopment, which included refurbishment of its multi-storey car park, an extension to Morrisons and the welcoming of a series of new tenants, including: Smoke Barbeque, Dunkin Donuts, an NHS clinic, Bonmarché and Select.
