Town Centre Securities (TCS), represented by international real estate advisor Savills and Brassington Rowan, has let space at The Merrion Centre in Leeds to the UK’s leading rent-to-own retailer, BrightHouse.BrightHouse has agreed a new 10-year lease on 3,778 sq ft (351 sq m) arranged over two floors. Helen Beckett, from Town Centre Securities, comments: “BrightHouse is one of the retail success stories who are going from strength to strength despite the current market challenges. We are very pleased to welcome them to The Merrion Centre and know that they will be a great boost to our ever evolving tenant mix as well as providing an excellent new service for our customers."
Peter McTague, at BrightHouse, says: “With over 180 stores across the UK, this latest acquisition is part of our wider company strategy to increase the profile of our brand in locations where we are not already represented. The Merrion Centre is well-positioned in the centre of Leeds and offers a local catchment that meets our requirements."
BrightHouse will trade from a new store created by the reconfiguration of two units formerly occupied by Hawkins Bazaar and Busters Warehouse. Both retailers have relocated to similar size stores within the scheme totalling 2,083 sq ft (189 sq m) and 1,466 sq ft (136 sq m) respectively.
Steve Henderson, associate director at Savills, adds: “We have been working hard with our client at The Merrion Centre to build a strong tenant mix in-line with the objectives set by TCS. This has involved some complex asset management strategies such as the relocation of Hawkins Bazaar and Buster Warehouse and subsequent reconfiguration of the former stores to create a new location for BrightHouse."
