Piccadilly Basin Scoops Office Award

11 Ducie Street, BDP Architects Manchester studio, has won "Best Corporate Workplace" at this years British Council for Offices (BCO) Northern Awards ceremony. The BCO Awards promote excellence and best practice in office design.

The building, forming part of Town Centre Securities PLC's award winning Piccadilly Basin mixed-use development, was also nominated for the BCO's national innovation award the winner being announced in October.

Designed by BDP Architects for their own occupation, the property was the first naturally ventilated, commercial building in Manchester to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating for environmental sustainability. The carbon neutral development, located where the Rochdale and Ashton canals converge and within close proximity of Manchester Piccadilly railway station is also home to a "living roof" to support the habitat of the protected-species Black Redstart birds resident at the Basin.

Winning the prestigious BCO Award follows on from the office buildings recent success in Manchester City Council's "Built in Quality" Award scheme.
